Yogis and yoginis,
It is with a sad heart that I announce I will not be teaching at Encinitas LA Fitness on Thur. at 8:00pm. anymore.
I received 2 phone calls from the boss that I was not teaching in the LAF way. Apparently all yoga classes are required to be a Vinyasa style regardless of the safety, ability, and needs of the members who attend my class. I wish that we could have evolved a more member sensitive yoga class.
I would not agree to discontinue the use of the wall on one class a month and for balance compromised clients at any time. I insisted on providing eye pillows and straps to assist the LAF members with various poses. I complained loudly about the lack of decent yoga mats or any other simple props. Pilates, water aerobics, step aerobics and sculpt classes all use numerous pieces of equipment. Yoga classes don't even have a real yoga mats! Really! Is that right?!
It is extremely shortsighted for LAF to alienate a large section of their member base by not planning for the inevitable Baby Boomer adjustments to exercise regimes. That means they should offer slower, safer, gentler yoga classes now. Yoga as a health tool will only become more widespread!
To all my LAF students; May we live like lotus, at home and at peace on the radiant journey through the muddy water!
Please honor yourselves and your practice by continuing to "keep calm and carry on", the mat.
Annie
